About Us
Vision
P.O.W.E.R. unleashes potential within youth and builds a solid foundation for them to succeed in life.
Mission
P.O.W.E.R. a non-profit mentoring program, provides youth, ages 12-18 with tools, strategies, and resources to help them succeed. We empower our youth to take an active role in life and become catalysts for positive change in their community and beyond. We partner with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other community organizations to ensure we are maximizing the development of our youth. Our approach to mentoring is grounded in sound behavioral science principles.
Our Founder
Dr. Desiree Haynes, PsyD, MBA
Dr. Desiree Haynes, founder of P.O.W.E.R., is passionate about giving back and helping those that look like her. Over the years, she has mentored youth with organizations such as the National Black MBA Association’s Leaders of Tomorrow program and the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network—Growing in Female Transition Program. As part of the Bison Career Mentor Program, Dr. Haynes provided mentoring to undergraduate students at her alma mater, Howard University. Over the course of her career, Dr. Haynes contemplated, prayed, and meditated on how she could use her unique educational background, training, and personal and professional experiences to make a greater positive impact in society–thus, the inception of P.O.W.E.R.
As an organizational psychologist, Dr. Haynes creates and implements high-quality and meaningful services for her clients at the individual, team, and organizational level. She has worked in several recognized corporations including Sempra Energy, Kaiser Permanente, Alameda Health System, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Einstein Health Care Network and Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Haynes earned her Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) with a specialization in Organizational Psychology and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Widener University. In addition, she completed graduate studies at Pepperdine University and undergraduate studies at Howard University.
As a point of motivation, the old African Proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” P.O.W.E.R. strives to be a part of that village and the catalyst to help youth thrive.
